Don’t be confused by the name; this is a genuinely local Derbyshire Peak District cheese variety and exclusively made by us for the Duke of Devonshire and Chatsworth Hall. This popular cheese won a prestigious Gold in 2021 at the International Cheese Awards. Described by the judges as “great blueing, visually excellent, strong flavour and lasting, good mouthfeel” don’t take our word for it; listen to the judges at this global awards ceremony!

Made by our Creamery at the request of the Duke of Devonshire to celebrate the long relationship between Hartington Creamery and the Chatsworth estate as the 7th Duke of Devonshire was our founder in 1870. This soft blue brine ripened naturally rinded cheese is orange due to the addition of natural vegetable colouring called anatto. An excellent blue vein cheese, this is beautifully creamy and hard to stop eating. Available from the Chatsworth Farm shop and online from us, enjoy your own wedge of by Royal Appointment cheese!

Did you know that you can freeze our cheese for up to 12 months? Just defrost for 24 hours in the fridge before eating at from temperature for the best flavour.
