There are a number of ways to enjoy our cheese. Our hampers and boxes are packed with goodies that make it easy to create a cheese board, either for yourself or to share with friends and family. A lot of our customers use our cheese for gifting, as a way of celebrating another person or just to add some tasty treats to a family get-together.

But if you love our cheese as much as we do, sometimes you’ll just want it for yourself, and we don’t blame you! Our cheese is fantastic for snacking, supper, or as an accompaniment to lunch or dinner.

How to Choose the Best Cheese for Snacking

We all have our favourite flavours of cheese. Some people prefer the classics, stiltons and cheddars that are universally loved in the UK.

Others like the boldness of blue cheese, or are keen to try some of the more interesting combinations like our Balti spiced or Chocolate & Chilli cheese.

With that in mind, there isn’t a ‘best’ cheese, but we can still recommend some of our favourites, and the ones that we think are better for snacking in particular.

Most Popular Cheeses for Snacking

When most of us raid the snack cupboard, we’re not looking for anything weird or wonderful. Just something that silences our stomach or is something to enjoy while watching TV, a movie, or any other leisure activity.

As a result, some of the best snacking cheeses are classic white cheeses like cheddar and stilton. Although some may consider these ‘plain’, even the simplest artisan cheese made on our farm is packed with flavour, and far tastier than what you’ll find on supermarket shelves.

But if you do like a stronger flavour for your snacking, we have plenty of those to choose from. Our Heart of Hartington range includes multiple cheese truckles (which contain enough cheese for multiple snack breaks!) with the following flavours:

All of these truckles will last for a week or more after opening, so there is no rush to eat it all at once – although we’ll understand the temptation!

What to Pair with Cheese for Snacking

If you just want to snack on some cheese, having it plain is absolutely fine. But if flavour is your goal, cheese accompaniments are key.

Our chutneys add even more flavour to your cheese. Most pair perfectly with any white cheese, the fruitiness and extra texture working alongside the savoury cheese. If you have a few chutneys to choose from, you can experiment more even if you’re using the same cheese as a base.

We have fruity chutneys made using locally sourced ingredients, and some jams that have a unique texture and our chilli jam can even add some spice!

In our cheese gift hampers you’ll also find delicious crackers and biscuits, the perfect way to add a little more crunch. These have mild flavour, so they don’t battle with the cheese and chutney, but are also nice enough to enjoy on their own!

Last but not least, you need something to wash it all down with. Again, if it’s just a quick snack this isn’t strictly necessary, but if you’re try to enjoy your cheese as much as possible, a glass of wine, port, or one of our ales will hit the spot.
