Hartington Creamery Interview for the BBC Radio Derby Breakfast Show
We were honoured to welcome once again, BBC Radio Derby and Twiggy’s breakfast show back to the farm and Creamery.
The very lovely Miranda, presenter for BBC Radio Derby came to visit us this week, and she brought with her a beautiful morning’s red sky. We were featured on Twiggy’s breakfast show all morning from 7 am until 9 am with live interviews from the Farm and the Creamery.
Miranda had a special mission tasked by her colleagues, a first for her and that was to milk one of our cows! We had to remove the rose-tinted expectations of hand milking into a bucket as we showed her into our busy milking parlour. Shown here in action is Miranda getting to grips with the cows under the able instruction of Abby Spurrell who lives on and farms the dairy herd with her partner James. A fast learner, Miranda grabbed the cow by the udders and milked her first and probably the last cow. Shown here are Managing Director and Farmer Robert Gosling switching roles to the temporary BBC soundman.
The BBC came to see us and discuss the increasing costs we have faced in farming and Cheese production since we left the EU. The facts are that the costs of consumables for manufacturing and feed have more than trebled since Brexit. The availability of basic commodities has become time-consuming and difficult. We were asked if consumers were going to see the effects of the increased costs on farming and production. We very sadly had to confirm that this would be the outcome as we have tried to maintain our current prices but our profit has to be sustainable and we like all other UK businesses will be forced to increase prices due to the failures of the battling politicians who are solely to blame for this situation.
